Absorbed in the gentle sensation of being cradled by the water, Paul didn’t notice a giant sea turtle swimming near him. At the same time, being nearsighted, the giant sea turtle somehow decided that the man’s leg was a giant shrimp wiggling beneath the water. The turtle swam closer and took a huge bite, and Paul’s shin started bleeding profusely. Though Paul was nearly in shock, he began swimming for the shore.
Before he reached the sand, Paul bled out and drifted onto the beach. No person around saw what had happened, but Edward’s dolphin friends witnessed the event. They telepathically called for Edward.
Edward came running out to Paul, but he was lying motionless. Edward ran to tell Miriam to call 911, and then raced back to Paul’s lifeless body. Edward suddenly lost control. He ran back to the house and grabbed a large kitchen knife. Miriam shouted that an ambulance was on the way, but Edward replied that they needed a hearse. Paul was dead. Back on the beach, Edward spotted the giant sea turtle in the water. Edward swam out to the turtle and when the turtle was dead, Edward dragged it onto the beach near Paul’s body. The paramedics were just arriving when Edward continued to drag the turtle all the way to his parents’ deck. As the paramedics placed Paul’s body in the ambulance, Miriam began yelling and crying to see her husband. Edward stopped her. He told her that she needed to let them do their job. He hugged her while she cried in his arms and then made her some tea with a sedative. When she grew drowsy and nodded off on the sofa, Edward covered her with a light cotton shawl and returned to the turtle.
When the turtle was dead, Edward dragged it onto the beach near Paul’s body. The paramedics were just arriving when Edward continued to drag the turtle all the way to his parents’ deck. As the paramedics placed Paul’s body in the ambulance, Miriam began yelling and crying to see her husband. Edward stopped her. He told her that she needed to let them do their job. He hugged her while she cried in his arms and then made her some tea with a sedative. M.D. Nomberg, a graduate of the University of Alabama, is a lifetime lover of history, literature, film, and genealogy. Spending a good part of his career in advertising, he has always enjoyed writing and video production. His creative pursuits range from producing Mangled Alive, a horror movie based on Jack the Ripper, and writing for The National Jewish Post and Opinion Newspaper. Nomberg currently lives in Gulfport, Florida.
