“Lucy finds herself standing outside a giant building, Lucy smiles as she first imagines the sails of a boat, and thus envisions a flotilla (large number) of boats coming into dock. When she blinks her eyes she instead sees the kinds of seashells that one may find when walking along the sandy beaches of Australia.
As Lucy walks to the entrance she reads a sign that tells her the name of this amazing building is the Sydney Opera House. As she opens the door she is greeted by her tour guide, a ballerina named Franny. Franny shows Lucy how the Sydney Opera House is used for a variety of fine arts performances including the symphony, theater, operas, and ballet. Franny explains that the Opera House is one of the world’s most unique looking buildings and therefore one in which people from all over the world come to see.”

About the Book
Lucy is splashing home from school on a rainy day when she notices a book in the gutter. When she picks it up, she discovers that it’s a library book. Lucy loves the library. She decides to take the book back to the library, but it’s too cold and rainy to do it now. Lucy will have to get some dry clothes and wait until the rain stops to take the book back to its home.
At home, Lucy’s curiosity takes hold. She decides to see what’s inside this book that she rescued. Called Discovering Australia, it’s full of amazing facts and beautiful images. Using her imagination, Lucy’s transported on an amazing adventure through the mysterious Land Down Under.

About the Author
Nicole Leitz Garcia knew she wanted to write books ever since she learned to read. The desire to write and share her love of reading with children was ignited when she participated in the Teach for America program in Phoenix in 2006 and taught four incredible groups of second graders.
