John increased his vigilance as he slowly crept down the driveway, heading toward the cabin where his friend was held at bay. The next turn was to the left, where foliage was very thick on both sides of the roadbed. Using the binoculars to scan the woods ahead yielded nothing, yet he sensed he was approaching the end of the trail; he imagined some yahoo embedded off to one side in a secure hideaway, aiming his rifle at the cabin and thinking he was completely in command. Another look through the binoculars confirmed that intuition. A blow-down tree on the right side of the road was the concealed place the shooter had selected. He had a clear view of the cabin’s front door and the parked SUV. John knelt down behind a wide tree stump to survey the land and decide the best way to deal with the armed man.

Cy and Rane McCormick are on vacation when an unfortunate encounter with a group of hoodlums causes Cy to rely on his military training to escape. But when the thugs follow his family to their remote cabin getaway and begin shooting at them with M16s, Cy puts in a desperate call for help to his friend, recognized jazz saxophonist and fellow marksman, John Skinner. Hours later, John slowly creeps toward the cabin where his friend is held at bay, knowing he is Cy’s only hope for survival.
John is a devoted family man and owner of a music repair business who has a strong sense of right and wrong. With weapon in hand, John expertly wounds the three thugs surrounding Cy’s cabin. After the incident and before they part ways, John confesses to Cy that his urge to avenge injustice has led him to participate in several covert CIA missions. Now that Cy is safe, John continues on a dangerous journey where he is determined to use his sniper expertise for the good of mankind.
Takin’ It Out shares the tale of a marksman’s mission to overcome injustice as he courageously protects his friends, family, and country from hostile forces and is led to places he never expected.
About the Author
Richard Bancroft earned a doctorate from New York University. He has been a music professor, professional photographer, conductor, published composer and arranger, and owner of a musical instrument repair business. He lives on the coast of Maine with his wife, Joyce, and their dog, Siegfried, where he remains a gun aficionado. This is his debut novel.
