Booooooommmmmm! Crack, Crack, Boom! Went the thunder and lightning outside of the little brick house on School Street.
Luke sat straight up in his bed and looked over at his big sister Leia. She was sleeping soundly.
Boom! The thunder seemed even louder now. Luke was really starting to get scared.
Luke quickly jumped out of his bed and half hopped, half tiptoed over to Leia’s bed. He couldn’t imagine how she could be sleeping with all this noise!
“Wake up Leia, wake up. It’s thundering” said Luke as he shook his sister. “Monsters are coming. Bad guys, bad guys”
“What?” said a sleepy Leia?
“Thunder Leia” said Luke and then Boom! Crack, Crack…now Leia heard it too and both kids were very afraid.
“Should we get mom and dad?” said Leia

About the Book
One stormy night, Luke is jolted awake by the booming sound of thunder cracking outside. Though his big sister, Leia, sleeps soundly despite the storm, Luke can’t sleep at all. He’s scared. He doesn’t want to be alone through the storm, so he tip-toes over to his sister’s bed and wakes her up. When Leia hears the thunder, she becomes frightened too. The children huddle together, shivering in Leia’s bed. What are they going to do?
As the children shiver and the thunder clatters, the door creaks open slowly. Through the door comes someone the kids know and love—their dog, Zoe. That’s when things get really amazing, for when Zoe finds her special children, she talks to them. And it’s a good thing, too, because Zoe knows something about the storm that will make the children feel better.
Determined to make her special children feel better, Zoe takes Leia and Luke on a magical adventure to an age known as the Jurassic period, or the time of the dinosaurs. There they meet Jason, a young brachiosaur, and his mother, Diane. Together they learn a valuable lesson about bravery from their new friends.
About the Author
Matthew J. Dupee lives in Framingham, Massachusetts, with his wife, Jessica, children Leia, Brooklyn, Luke, and Jason, two black labs, Dala and Paige, and yorkie bijon, Cleo. Zoe passed away in 2012 after a full life with our family. As her name describes, she brought us life, love, and devotion.
Ashly Jernigan has been coloring for as long as she can remember. She grew up in the beautiful mountains of Sedona, Arizona, with her three brothers, parents, crayons galore, and lots of love and encouragement. Ashly started illustrating professionally during college, where she studied visual arts and fashion design.
