“Well”, Mabel began to gently stretch and lift herself back up to talk to her new friend Eloise. “I always imagined myself as a colorful, bright, beautiful creature. But I am simply a skinny, fuzzy, green little caterpillar. I have no beauty,” responded Mabel in a sad and sunken voice.
“Oh, on the contrary!” responded Eloise. “You are the most beautiful creature I have seen in the longest time living in this meadow!” You are kind, considerate, and friendly to others. You put other’s needs before yourself, like today in the meadow. I saw you searching for the tastiest, juiciest, and greenest leaves for all of your other caterpillar friends! You see, true beauty comes in all sizes, shapes, and forms, but the most important kind is the beauty that comes from within your kind and giving heart! For that is the most powerful beauty of any kind.
You were created for a very special purpose! And as for the outside beauty of which you worry. Don’t fret, because very soon your outside beauty will match the beautiful light that shines from within your kind and giving heart. Now, go! Go and share your inner beauty with the rest of the meadow’s creatures! Share the lessons you have learned and continue to spread the goodness from your kind little heart!”

Mabel can’t believe it when one day she looks into a puddle and sees her reflection.
She had always imagined she was a bright, beautiful caterpillar, but she realizes with horror that she’s skinny, green, and plain looking. Her bright, cheerful smile turns into a frown.
But then a red-bellied robin flies out of the sky to talk to Mabel. “Oh don’t worry, little Mabel! I’m not going to eat you!” the robin says. “My name is Eloise, and I have been watching you from afar. What seems to be the problem here?”
When Eloise hears what it is, she tells Mabel that beauty isn’t determined by what’s on the outside, but by what’s on the inside. She advises Mabel to continue being a kind caterpillar and sharing her beauty with others.
Mabel—who had always had a loving heart—follows Eloise’s advice by striving even harder to help her friends in the meadow.
