About the Book
Crown Prince DeGoff, better known as Garfy, is a purebred Collie with a long coat of yellow fur. He lives with a pleasant family who spends their time working on cars and driving, but they don’t have little children. Garfy feels he might be better suited to a family with kids who need his love and protection.
With his friend Stella, a white and brown rabbit, Garfy scopes out a new home, a family with two parents and five young children. He is determined to be adopted by them. Garfy believes he can make an important contribution to the hobby farm and the family.
Based on true events, A Prince of a Dog tells the story about Garfy and his determined quest to find a new home.
Praise for A Prince of a Dog
“You have to admire persistence and, even as an adult reader, I found myself quickly caught up in Garfy’s determination to join a new family with young children who ‘needed’ him. This is a story that children, grandchildren—and even the adults who need them—will enjoy. The storyline brings up opportunities for further discussion about families, what it means to be adopted, how family members support and protect each other, and more. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more of Garfy and his friend Stella in the future.”
