Erica’s Treehouse

Dad suggested: “we should build a treehouse!” With a plan and a wish list completed, dad unloaded the wood and started preparing it for construction. Carefully, he measured, sawed, and nailed each piece. Each day a little more was built and each day I could see the progression of my special new place. Not too long from that time, my treehouse was complete. There I stood in awe of this beautiful creation. It had a wonderful ladder leading up and a big yellow curved slide leading down. Dad told me: “go ahead and try it.”
I climbed the ladder and walked through my big yellow door. On top of the door was written: Erica’s Treehouse. The words were made from some of the branches dad had to cut. I stepped through the door and it was exactly as I pictured it! I stood at the top of my treehouse that morning, so pleased about my new space. I realized with a big smile, this was the first of many adventures in my treehouse.

About the Book
A oak tree, more than forty feet tall, commands attention in the middle of Erica’s big backyard. She loves the tree with all of its branches and nooks and crannies. She enjoys climbing into the oak and finding refuge; it’s her magical adventurous tree.
As the seasons change, the tree continues to grow. As it grows, she discovers she can no longer reach the branches to pull herself into it or climb it. Erica’s father sees her disappointment and suggests building a special treehouse in the old oak. She wants the treehouse to be at least ten feet off the ground, to have windows on each side, to have room to stretch out, and to include a thinking space.
After a big setback, father and daughter work together to create a special place in the grand old oak tree, a place where Erica can experience a variety of rewarding adventures as a little girl.
