This is a story of a little sand crab named Harry. Harry has a daily routine of watching the tide come in and go out, wetting his gills, digging new burrow homes, eating and, occasionally, racing along the beach with his best friends, Kainan and Mateo. ( The name Kainan is spelled correctly. FYI)
One day Harry sees a man sitting on the beach watching him and his friends. The man is writing notes on his laptop and taking pictures of him. The man Harry sees is a scientist named Tim. Tim is there to observe sand crabs and how they live.
One morning, Harry wakes up late. The ocean is at low tide and a long way from Harry's home. In addition, the sand at the entrance to his burrow is dry and slippery. Coming out of his burrow, Harry loses his footing, slips and ends up stuck on his back unable to turn himself over. Harry is in danger!
Tim is on the beach that morning and sees what has happened to Harry. He goes over to the little crab and, with his hand under Harry's back, gently turns the little sand crab back onto his feet saving Harry's life. This starts a wonderful friendship between Harry and the scientist named Tim. By talking to each other, Tim is able to learn about sand crabs and Harry learns why he is so important to the health of the ocean.

Harry is a little sand crab who stays close to the water, keeps his gills wet, and sometimes races along the beach with his friends, Kainan and Mateo. One day when he is busily digging a burrow, Harry notices a man on the beach photographing him and taking notes. Tim is an oceanographer who has no idea he is about to save Harry from tragedy.
When Harry comes out of his burrow on his way to the ocean, he slips and lands on his back. As a hungry bird flies overhead, Harry fears the worst. But when Tim runs to his rescue and turns Harry over, just in time, a friendship develops between man and sand crab. As they talk, Harry explains about himself, the environment, and why animals must stay where they belong to survive.
In this fun and educational children’s book, a little sand crab-saved from tragedy by a scientist-teaches the scientist valuable lessons about his life and his important role in keeping the ocean clean.
About the Author
Gaylee Warner is a retired surgical nurse and daughter of a career military officer who has lived in Morocco, Japan, and all over the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. In her spare time, she enjoys reading out loud to children and adults. This is her sixth book.
C. R. Macomber is a former art teacher who now works as a freelance artist and independent art contractor. She is a grandmother of eight and a fanatic baseball fan who loves coffee, key lime pie, and any type of art.
