Zoey the zebra was standing in the field under a tree eating some grass. She was all alone and very sad because she had no friends. Well, Zoey had green and black stripes and everyone knew that all zebras have black and white stripes, all except Zoey. None of the other zebras wanted to play with her – they said she was weird.
Suddenly she heard a voice from above her in the tree. She looked up and saw a monkey with only one arm. “Hey, what you doing?” he said. “Nothing, no one wants to play with me because I have weird stripes” Zoey said. “I will” said the monkey “my name is Alex and I’m weird too – I only have one arm. An alligator bit it off when I was a baby. Come on. Let’s play catch!! “Said Alex So Zoey and Alex played catch the whole day and became best friends and did not feel lonely or sad any more.

About the Book
We all want to have friends. But sometimes, there’s something that makes us different from others. In many cases, that can make finding friends difficult.

About the Author
Christopher Knott-Craig, MD, is an internationally recognized pediatric cardiac surgeon. He understands that many children carry physical and emotional scars throughout life that can result in feelings of not being good enough and that they’re different from their friends. These scars can be sources of great anxiety and isolation for both children and parents. In his interactions with these families, he shares with them that their scars are physical reminders that they are special.
