Some nights, I walked out of my house and my “Angel Auntie” housekeeper would find me lying on the gravel outside. I called her my "Angel Auntie" because she looked after me like her own daughter. She stayed close to me and checked on me often at night because she understood the turmoil and depression I was feeling. The despair continued to deepen to the point I contemplated suicide. The enemy has a way of manipulating us when we are most vulnerable. In my case, I felt utterly and totally hopeless. I had always been able to overcome my struggles in some way, shape, or form but at this point my despair had somehow overtaken me. I felt as though I had become a personal failure to my children. Therefore, I concluded I would rather perish instead of having my children see me in this condition.
Around midnight one night, I was sitting alone in my room feeling hopeless and distraught. I was ready to take a drastic step and prepared to take my own life. I had carefully planned everything, and now I was ready to do it. Suddenly, the strange presence of a woman made itself into my room. It startled me so much so I immediately said, “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.” With an exceptionally eerie glow on her face, she glanced behind her and a second woman who had the same glow on her face appeared and said, “We believe”. One woman came by my bedside and stood to my right, while the other woman proceeded to stand on my left side. In the blink of an eye, they both disappeared. I was left in shock!
Although this all seemed out of the norm, I knew the God I serve is a God of miracles and wonders. God cares about our every desire and need. His eyes are on the mere sparrow and likewise He watches over us. After this experience my thoughts of suicide disappeared forever. I am so grateful and humbled by the power of our mighty God. He is real and cares and loves us deeply. Miraculously, after my encounter with the two women, I gained an inexplicable strength. I felt hope within and at peace again. I knew there was a bright future ahead for me and my children.

She thinks nothing of it when the store manager—also from Guyana—befriends her, but it’s all a ploy so he can brutally rape her when he gets her alone. From that day on, work is a degrading and humiliating experience.
For years, she suffers from low self-esteem and feels alone, but when all hope seems lost, she cries out to Jesus. He hears her cry and retrieves her from a lonely place to set her feet on solid rock.

She is the author of, “Silent Cry Loud Echo God Heard Me” and “I Placed My Hands In His 40 Days Of Devotion.” Dr. Maya will soon release her newest book, "Between Hopelessness And Survival."
She is also a member of the American Naturopathic Medical Certification Board and a board-Certified Doctor of Natural Medicine, and a Master Herbalist. She has over 25-years of experience using natural plant base food supplements, minerals, and vitamins to assist clients in healing the body for a healthier lifestyle. Dr. Selene Maya Author is also a graduate of Trinity College of Natural Health and is a member of the Institute of the National Association of Certified Natural Health Professionals.
When Dr. Author is not speaking, writing, or evangelizing, she coaches and provides health consults and plans using holistic therapies, homeopathic remedies and natural food supplements in combination with nutritional and lifestyle counseling to address the full dynamics of Individuals Health Care. She also volunteers within and beyond U.S. Borders. As a result of her philanthropic endeavors to build water wells for a clean water supply in South America, Dr. Author received the prestigious Synergy International Humanitarian Award in 2014.
