Weapons of Warfare
There are battles to be fought against the enemy (darkness, sin) beyond receiving salvation and the promise of redemption, and they are battles worth learning how to fight and worth fighting, because they place us (at once) on our spiritual equilibrium and on the path to our perfection.
Prayer is one part of a two-way spiritual communication channel based on consonance and wavelength… Fasting is an aid to service, tune, optimise, and enhance both the device (the human vessel) and the channel spiritually.
Fasting for days and breaking with food daily is good, but serious dry or rigorous fasting is spiritually much more compact, concentrated, and effective. Going consecutive days without food without food, sex, and to some extent, water, is the essence of serious dry fasting: ... how we can fundamentally deal with defilement and enhance truth within us; … how we can systematically tame the flesh, … starve and deny the flesh of its natural appetite and food of lusts and vain pleasures; … how we can bring merciless violence to bear on the flesh: the corrupt aspect of our being that is the enemy of our spirit and our GOD, and a natural ally of the enemy (darkness, sin).
Clearly, the flesh has a built-in self-destructive mechanism that tries to consume the entire being. The one thing that keeps us alive (and from being destroyed) is the spirit inside us, and once the spirit leaves, the flesh acts out its part: which it had always sought to do, even when the spirit was present keeping us alive. This is the basis of the natural conflict between both aspects of our being ... So, the flesh, as an enemy at war with the spirit, has no choice but to rise, outraged against any spirit-enhancing endeavour embarked on (such as dry fasting), rudely demanding to be fed as usual.
We are not going to get to the point where we can do serious dry fasting without food (overnight and for consecutive days) easily. We should not worry about being able to do three weeks of dry fasting at a stretch like Daniel or even three days like Queen Esther, at once.
Why should the enemy (darkness, the flesh, defilement) just leave us alone to do dry fasting, when it will undermine its power and control over us, and nullify its leverage against us?
Truth as the Essence
Reading, imbibing, and using truth (the Word of GOD) in the pressurised sanitising conditions of a serious dry fasting stint with praying in the spirit is a concentrated process to accelerate our spiritual growth. It renews our mind; it cleanses and transforms us completely, amongst many other things, it is a platform and means to purge the human vessel of evil defilement.
The Word of GOD has many purposes and dimensions: It is how GOD is revealed in truth, and as Truth, and how we can be purged of defilement prior to being strengthened and sanctified.
The Word of GOD (truth) … applied properly as “the sword of the spirit”, will pierce through the darkness helplessly.
Serious dry fasting is a process and platform to store up truth (the Word of GOD) to fortify and enhance our spirit, in preparation to fight to overcome and take the darkness apart completely.
What a Badger!
We are being recreated and moulded after Christ Jesus, and are commanded to be harmless, and indeed, we are. But, our harmlessness is not for the benefit of powers of darkness as eternal enemies of our souls; when we cross paths in the spirit, it is war; we are instinctively transformed into ferocious instruments fashioned to deal with them ruthlessly, without sentiments or mercy.
An adolescent honey badger … probably never having seen a king cobra before, confronts it with instincts of dealing with a dangerous natural enemy and awareness of potential delicacy. She is instantly transformed into a fierce and ferocious instrument that kills their king, and in biting off the cobra’s head, finds it delicious. If bitten, the trick is to kill the serpent before the effect of its poison kicks in, and if it does, the badger just sleeps it off and wakes up to finish her meal of king cobra, and then skips off like a human adolescent feeling rather accomplished and having had a lovely treat of chocolate and ice cream to top off. We are spiritual honey badgers; the darkness is made of poisonous serpents and satan is their king.
Pain and torment are natural interim instruments to deal with the rebellion of the darkness and our purpose as true believers in Jesus Christ is to give it a good bruising on its head and consign it into oblivion. We are instruments moulded to dispose of (cast out) the darkness, and if necessary, to afflict it.
The spiritual dominion of darkness ended on the Cross at Calvary; the darkness was granted permission to assume political power to manifest the peak to end all its dominion in the world. For now, it can try to make us miserable, block, delay, persecute, and kill us physically, especially as it gets structurally organised to take political power through the spirit of the mystery of iniquity working …, to set up and reveal its antichrist in power.
But, if we are built up … they can never spiritually attack us successfully. People naturally fear satan and are terrified of the darkness, but we can reverse roles to become the fear of satan and the dread of the darkness, simply because of consequences they could suffer, and the potential havoc we can wreck on them from a position of spiritual authority and immunity from evil spiritual attack. Soon after we begin to build ourselves, we will realise that the darkness is sitting on a keg of gun powder and fire to devour it is there, kindled from inside it already; all we need to do is help it with a little spiritual ignition.
