“She wrapped her arms around her knees and looked down at the cement stairs under her feet.
“So, tell me now,” she said and looked up at him with expectant eyes. Eyes that wanted to see the truth as well as hear it. It was important for her to be able to tell when words and emotions matched. For some people, this came easy, but for her, it was a little harder to understand.
She would come to know that in life, deceitful eyes were the most difficult of all to read.
There were so many ways to lie after all. Lying by twisting the truth, and lying by hiding the truth, like her father had done when her mother had passed away. He didn’t tell her the truth right away and said she was sick and had to extend her business trip. It was hard for her to forgive her Dad, so she wondered if it would be just as hard to forgive Rocky, even though she really wanted too.”

Thirteen-year-old Season Adams has autism and struggles to navigate relationships with her overprotective, single dad and her best friend, Rocky Adelphio, who has been bullied throughout middle school. Although Season and Rocky are about to receive their diplomas, a few troubled teens plan to use graduation night to wreak havoc on their neighborhood. Season and her friends and family must face deadly circumstances as they learn to rely on each other and dare to trust old enemies.
The Heroes of Hanover Heights shows the harsh realities many adolescents face at home and how emotional pain and violence disrupt their lives. It is a tale of heartbreak and loss, betrayal, and the anguish of dark family secrets, while teaching valuable lessons in acceptance, forgiveness, and redemption.
About the Author
J. Rene’e Noble earned her high school equivalency certificate late in life. She attended Ivy Tech in Terre Haute, Indiana, where she honed her skills in public speaking and essay writing. The mother of five now-adult children, she developed a passion for telling stories with captivating and relatable life situations, and that will resonate with today’s youth. She and her husband, Greg, live in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
