My life was pretty normal, maybe a little boring.
Until one day things really changed-now listen to my story…
One day my parents talked with me and had such long, sad faces.
They told me my dad is going to far off distant places.
They said our country really needs great people like my dad,
And asked for me to not be scared and try to understand.
The day Dad left came way too fast it was here before I knew.
Next time he’s home he won’t believe just how very tall I grew.
It will be a long, long time while he’s so far away.
I know my dad will be protected; I feel it when I pray.
Then one day he’ll come back all safe as he can be,
And we’ll thank God for his return to his loving family.

About the Author
Chandelle Walker was raised in Arizona and met her husband, Mike, in California while he was serving in the Marine Corps. As a family, they have persevered through many separations, including five deployments to Afghanistan and Korea, each being a year long. Chandelle enjoys crafting, home decorating, playing the piano, being outdoors and meeting new people. She and her husband have two children.
