About the Book

Miss Friend, the first-grade teacher who lives on Sunshine Drive, loves school days. She’s so excited to see her students and work with them as they explore and learn new things. Miss Friend is full of joy, but she also has cancer. Things about her may change, but she’s still the same special teacher inside.

About the Author

Kelly Friend, a first-grade teacher, was diagnosed with cancer at age twenty-eight. Every day, her friends, family, colleagues, and students witnessed her courage and determination to win out over her illness. As she faced the effects of chemotherapy with grace and a positive attitude, she was most concerned not about herself but about her students and the impact her changing health would have on them.

Unable to find suitable resources to help them, Kelly made it her mission to produce a simple, informative, and comforting book to help young children understand the complex issues surrounding her illness. Although she left this earth way too soon, her goal to turn her own hardship into something positive for others led to one last uplifting “lesson plan” about cancer.
