The author, Rick LaRhette, struggled with this and started keying his thoughts into the computer. As the words flowed, he kept asking the hard questions that eventually revealed how and why his political and social views developed. He explored how these views, many of which were not fully understood until writing this book, were applied in school, marriage, family, career, and current political and social activities. Then he examines how these views contribute to his positions on many hot-button issues of the time such as immigration, global warming, guns, and healthcare.
The book is a worthwhile and interesting read for all. If you have ever wondered where your political and social beliefs came from it is a must read. The author believes that students and millennials might benefit the most from this book. Readers might not agree with all the author's conclusions, but it does provide some fresh independent thoughts to chew on outside media influences.
The author has credibility beyond his age alone. His career and personal travels took him all over the world to interact with people in other cultures and political environments. He writes about one of these experiences that made him appreciate the freedom and choices we have as Americans.
The book is intentionally short, about 2 hours at most for a thoughtful read.
