Ruby, a mate-less old soccer sock, buried away in the bottom drawer of the dresser that she fondly calls the “Bureau" introduces her long lost friend Tubbey, a warm and cozy tube sock, to a band of other mate-less, misfits: “Trouser, the hoity-toity dress sock , Crew the ring leader of the Athletics, Lacey, a pretty little anklet, Grace an old tattered dance leg warmer and the colorful Knee-High gang.
Through a series of daring adventures, Ruby and Tubbey hatch a plan to find and reunite her with her mate, that is if they can make it through the twist and turns of laundry day.,...
As soon as Ruby was thrown into the wash cycle, there were signs of trouble. Almost immediately she heard a faint grinding sound. A brightly colored sweater floated by and said to Ruby, “Not to worry, it’s a balance thing…too many clothes on one side.” Just then, a pretty striped shirt glided passed and said “Usually not a problem with these new fandangle machines. They balance themselves out.” But before Ruby could respond they were gone.
Around she went turning and tossing from side to side, creating mounts of sudsy foam and a sea of soapy water, which were quickly chased away by a huge wave of fresh clear water. Finally Ruby’s favorite part, the spin cycle. Normally, after spinning around at dizzying speeds Ruby felt delighted. But this time she was worried. She heard that grinding noise again. After a few more spins, suddenly there was a jerking motion followed by a thunderous THUMP. Abruptly, everything came to a halt!
Ruby landed SPLAT against the side of the washer. Stunned, Ruby felt a rush of air come in as the door of the washer was thrust open and she heard a voice announce “Oh dear! I think it’s broken. I’d better get these clothes out of the way and call the repairman.”

About the Author
Millicent (Millie) Sutton is a pediatrician, mother, and a first-time author. She lives in Westchester County in New York. As an extremely imaginative and curious child growing up in the rural south, she often dreamt of faraway places and entertained herself conjuring up fantastical scenarios, creating stories around songs and music she heard on the radio. Old African American folklore and her love of the great American short story was her introduction to creative writing and storytelling. But it was the simple bedtime reading rituals with her daughter that rekindled a love of classic children’s tales that began her venture as an author of children’s literature.
