I heard the distant, loud roar of a car approaching. Someone needs to get their muffler fixed, I thought. I looked down the road and saw our neighbor, Stanley, hauling his beat-up old red horse trailer behind his pickup. I watched as he passed by. The trailer was loaded with cattle, headed for the auction house and their grim fate. I did a double take: the cattle were agitated, jumping and stomping.
“Oh my God!” I screamed as I threw aside my sponge and jumped in my car.
The bottom of the dilapidated trailer was falling out, and the cattle’s hooves were dragging the pavement. It was the most horrifying, gut-wrenching scene as the poor, doomed animals struggled. I blew my horn wildly and flashed my headlights as I watched them endure incredible torture. Their eyes were wide with panic.

About the Book
Christine Holly is a small-town girl from Maryland’s Eastern Shore, raised in a conservative home in a family deeply affected by the death of her sister at a young age. She meets and falls in love with a younger man, an Oklahoma farm boy whose prominent family owns substantial land and oil wells.
