WHY JESUS CAME
Jesus came to show us the way
Of how we should live from day to day
The scriptures said there would be a Messiah
And saving souls would be his desire
Then it was heard
Throughout all the earth
About an Immaculate Conception
That would bring about his birth
He quietly grew
From a boy to a man
And now it was time
For the master plan
He found twelve disciples
To help with his message
He performed many miracles
He gave out many blessings
Then one day in the garden
He called them all in
It was the last time
They'd be together again
He was put into our midst
To accomplish a mission
He picked twelve disciples
To go soul fishing
Now we are the disciples
We carry on his work
There are many souls to save
Still lost on this earth
So get back Satan
Cause you the only one hating
You trying to steal souls
From God's Nation
Get out the way Get out the way
MOVE
God's Nation is pushing through
And just like Jesus
We got God work to do
HER LIPS
Her lips are soft and tender
They form a smile to remember
Such pleasure do they render
I must totally surrender
They start warm to the touch
Then they get hot
I must have them again and again
I want them so so much
Even my eyes surrender to them
For they are closed so tight
My brain is in a tizzy
As our lips fuss and fight
They make my heart go crazy
Sometimes it skips a beat
My tongue is also losing its mind
Her lips are candy sweet
Their presence is a gift to have
A sight to behold
I can't wait to see them today
To claim my pot of gold

America America
Land of the free
The greatest lie ever sold
Sold to you Sold to me
Why couldn’t you just let us be
We had our own culture
We had our own country
Oh say can you see
Can you see
The mayhem and destruction
You brought down on me
You kidnapped us
From our liberty
To pick your cotton and tobacco
And we still ain’t free
Now you tell us
To go back to our African shores
Our blood made this land rich
Now you don’t need us no more
Well now that we’re here
We’re here to stay
Four hundred years of free labor
Now it’s time to pay
Our hands are not out
We just want what’s ours
One stroke of the pen
With your presidential powers
Have you no shame
Even God has tears in his eyes
Don’t let greed be your master
Ask Pharaoh (pause) He’ll tell you why

Anthony Toomer enjoys telling true stories while using poetry as the narrative. In his first volume of poems divided into three parts, he interweaves personal experiences and current events with introspective observations that lead others on a journey through his path through life as an African American man.
Toomer begins with reflections inspired by biblical wisdom and his Christian faith that explore the power of prayer, the never-ending battle between good and evil, and God’s ability to pull us out of the darkness and into the light. In the remaining two sections, Toomer reflects on love, the sanctity of marriage, and the need for justice in the Black community as ignorance continues to plague humanity, even in today’s modern world.
A Poetic Spanking is a volume of free verse that explores faith, love, and societal woes while encouraging believers to build a lasting relationship with God.
About the Author
Readers will be pleasantly surprised by author Anthony Toomer’s natural skill at converting current events and personal experiences into poetry. There is no fake news here. Time and time again, his writing is thought-provoking, and many will identify with its points of contention. This is the writer’s first attempt at compiling a poetry book. He has been writing poetry since childhood.
The author was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Bushwick High School in Ridgewood, Queens, and went on to graduate from La Guardia Community College in Long Island City, Queens. He formerly lived in the Cooper Park Houses in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. He honorably served in the US Army Reserves, based at Fort Hamilton in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Now retired from the New York City Transit Authority as a motorman, he indulged in his lifelong aspiration to write a poetry book. The author is married and has two adult sons.
