Larissa awakened to the aroma of fresh brewed coffee. Her grandfather was sitting at the kitchen table with a cup in front of him and a newspaper in his hands. She stretched and yawned and stood up, eventually making her way out to the old man. He pretended to be startled as she noiselessly walked over and gave him a hug.
"Is that a robber about to run away with my heart?" Grandpa asked with a little grin on his face.
"Grampy, you know it's just me." she stated as she pointed upward and asked, "Could you reach the cereal on the refrigerator for me? I'm hungry."
The old man put down his paper, slowly stood, found a bowl, put cereal and milk in it; then handed it to the little girl.
"Thank you," she said.
"Glad to be of assistance." came his reply as a big smile brightened his face, "After all that is what Grampas are for."

About the Book
Some weekends, Larissa is lucky enough to stay with her grandpa and grandma. Grandpa helps her with many things like reaching the cereal when she can’t and fixing her bike when it breaks. After all, that’s what grandpas are for!
One weekend, while putting up Christmas decorations, Grandpa finds out he needs Larissa’s help, too, proving that assistance and learning go both ways, regardless of age.
The bond between a grandfather and granddaughter is like no other. Together, they find joy in the small moments, and those small moments become amazing memories that last a lifetime.
About the Author
G. L. Haskell is an award-winning poet. After graduating from high school, he married and enlisted in the Marine Corps. He eventually returned to Maine and became a heavy equipment operator until his retirement. He now loves riding his Harley and spending time with family. G. L. and his wife live in Maine and are the parents of four and have five grandchildren.
