It was a warm summer evening in a Midwest town. The barnyard was full. Suddenly, Daisy, a cute little duckling, came running from the barn towards the pond. “Mama, Mama, there’s gonna be a new baby coming to the barnyard,” she shouted. “I overheard Farmer Roy say that there was gonna be a new baby in the barnyard.” Daisy said out of breath. “I can’t wait to have another friend to play with. I hope it is the goose family, or the llama family or the sheep family. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, this is so exciting.” Daisy danced around her mother. “Don’t get too excited, I will find out what is going on.” She warned. Mama duck was just as curious and excited as Daisy, but she wanted to know what Farmer Roy said. So, she waddled from the pond to the field to talk to the cows. In the large green pasture where the cows were grazing, Mama Duck came up to the closest black and white cow and asked if they had heard the news. “Good morning Judy. Have you heard anything about the new baby coming to the barnyard?” She asked. Judy looked up from the grass confused. With a mouthful of fresh green grass, she said, “What? Who? All of us cows gave birth in the spring. As I recall the last heifer was born the end of April. So, it can’t be one of us cows. Try the sheep?” She put her head back into the tall grass. So, mama duck moved on….

About the Book
One warm summer evening, Daisy the duckling hears from the farmer that a new baby will be coming to the barnyard. But her mother thinks she must have misunderstood; after all, the animals all had their babies in the spring, when Daisy was hatched. Mama Duck begins searching the barnyard to see whether she can figure out what’s going on. First she checks with the cows, and then she talks to the sheep. But none of them are expecting a baby anytime soon. Neither are the goats, the llamas, the horses, or Penny the pig; all their babies arrived months ago. Mama Duck thinks it’s strange; what new baby could the farmer be talking about? Soon the animals all discover the answer—and what a surprise it is! In this children’s story, a mother duck hears a rumor of a new baby coming to the barnyard and sets out to discover the truth.
About the Author
Kelly J. Popwell grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania. She holds an associate’s degree in early childhood education and a bachelor’s degree in English literature. She currently works as an Executive Assistant for StarKist and enjoys going to the movies, traveling, and crafting. She and her husband, Noel, reside in Fairfax, Virginia. Tiffani Browne is an illustrator, animator, and graphic designer. She holds a diploma in animation studies and a bachelor’s degree in 3D animation, VFX, and video game design and works as a freelancer, specializing in illustrating and graphic design. She loves going to the beach, watching movies, and going to the gym. She resides in St. Vincent, a small island in the Caribbean.
