About the Book
Shay is an eager little pup who is so excited to become a service dog to help veterans, but she has a lot to learn to be effective in her new role. Jake, a retired service dog from the Veterans Assistance Dogs of Texas, is here to help. He walks Shay through the necessary steps to learn her new job, everything from taking obedience lessons to public access training. Jake explains the importance of his job to Shay who has so many questions. Jake the Service Dog, a picture book for children, highlights the special role service dogs play in the lives of veterans.
About the Author
Jamie R. Cole is a retired service member of the US Army. She earned an undergraduate degree in business management and a graduate degree in library information science. She has taught elementary and junior high, was a public-school librarian, and now enjoys retired life. Cole finds much pleasure in volunteering at the local library and nursing home and finds ways to show her support for her family and community.
