Puzzles!

Everyone sat silently, waiting for something to happen. Then it did.
A bitterly cold chill ran down my spine, like a glacial waterfall. My whole body froze, then I exploded. I stood up with my arms frantically waving. “The person who shot and killed my father is still alive?” I yelled at the top of my lungs as I reached out to smash whatever was near me. “He’s still standing. He’s still walking. He’s still talking. He is still breathing, and my father is dead! Is that what you’re saying?”
Mom grabbed on and held me tightly. “Yes Emmi. He can’t stand or walk, but he is still alive. I wanted to tell you because you might hear it at school tomorrow. I didn’t want you to find out that way.”
So many emotions were building inside me. I pushed my mother away, like the news was somehow her fault. “You know I’m only eleven, and I think I’m falling apart. My world is crumbling, and this monster is crushing it. This dangerous monster with a gun shot a hole in my life, where my father should be.”
