The Interior Design World of Elaine Roberts

It’s all about Living the Good Life! As an author of two books and an Allied ASID designer and president of Elaine Roberts Interiors, I believe surroundings impact us more than we may ever realize. Memorable, transforming design in homes uplift our spirits while bestowing us with peace and joy. If you enjoy your home as much as I do, the art of creating dazzling, luxurious, and family-friendly design will be a great bedside table companion when you wake up in the middle of the night thinking about creative ways to enliven your home. As a night time incentive, I included numerous collections of gorgeous, inspiring pictures of interior and exterior living spaces I designed with my remarkable clients and builders. You will discover solutions for mixing and rearranging furnishings to meet your way of living. My design conception derives from my French heritage and specialization in developing beautiful design projects with clients and builders in three very distinct places—Toledo, New York and Atlanta. Blessed with innovative mentors and a sense of humor, I am fortunate to have designed beautiful show houses, model and spec homes, a conference center, and sophisticated and cozy spaces for residential clients. In truth, I tended to learn through my mistakes, especially in the early years of designing my own homes and when I initiated my interior design store in the Atlanta area. As a result of twenty plus years of experience, I am sharing lessons learned about instilling inventive design for budget conscious renovations with endless possibilities. I am thankful that my parents encouraged two careers, education and design. My Allied ASID (American Association of Interior Designers) and Ph.D. in Literacy/Culture provided me with the opportunity to teach a three-hour credit course for the Georgia Real Estate Board, Capitalizing on Home Design Tools for Faster Better Sales Results. A section of the book features a successful collaboration between a real estate agent and myself when staging a condo in Vinings, Georgia. The book emphasizes how good design represents personal stories and styles. Comingling collections from vintage and modern accents, with a creative caprice of surprise frequently awaken a house into a memorable, timeless residence. In the first two sections of the book, the denouement is that I practice on my own dream home. I share with you the adrenalizing experiences my husband and I experienced during the renovation of our two homes. I included motivating before and after pictures. You can probably relate to how my husband and I agreed, disagreed, and decided to finally agree on designs and layouts as we created mind-boggling landscape transitions and renewed the interior of the homes. In the remaining sections of the book I reveal examples of model homes, spec homes, condo’s and residences that I designed with talented builders as well as remarkable clients from cities, the burbs, and lux ocean areas. The residences focus on clients personalized styles from modern to traditional to transitional styles. I portray different room rearrangements and explain how adding or subtracting furnishings and developing a color sense requires the skill of observing details that makes you think “Wow, I love this” or “That is definitely not my style!” Three historical homes undergo gorgeous renovation in the book. I share tips on how to create, refine, and maintain architectural character in historical homes with an infusion of modern elements. In other words, how to breathe new life into spaces. The Lux Living on the Coast section of the book includes an expansive transitional style home overlooking Narragansett Bay in Bristol, Rhode Island. Its breathtaking views are framed by exquisite landscaping and furnishings that include a closet and master bath beyond your dreams. You will enjoy the invitation to dine in section seven, Fine Design, Wine, and a Celebrity Chef’s French bonne cuisine Favorites. Chef’s Scott’s shares his visions for family friendly kitchens and recipes. I interjected some clients beautiful and unique entertaining spaces. Throughout the book, there are resources for shopping including design goods, antique and consignment stores, design centers, paint, fabrics, lighting, and numerous other vendors. Writing the book reaffirmed my love for the art of sophisticated and comfortable design. It is a vision imbued with elegance that portrays a welcoming aesthetic. Lets face it! Each of our homes exclusively tells the style and story of our lives. Petit a petit, l’oiseau fait son nid! It takes patience and perseverance when designing a home that favors the life of the owner, but it sure is worth it. Due to my design experiences, I agree with the notion that the French don’t give up easily! I hope you enjoy my design world!
