One early morning the little tree woke up and the sun was shining. Spring was here! The little tree stretched and yawned and rubbed his branches. "Oh my goodness," he exclaimed, "I'm all covered with bumps!" The poor little tree thought maybe he had the measles.
The other trees pointed at his bumps. "Ha, ha, ha," they laughed with their big deep voices, "you have bumps!"
The next day the little tree's bumps were bigger. "I must not have the measles," he thought, "because measles bumps don't get bigger."
Each day his bumps got bigger and bigger and the other trees laughed louder and louder. bumps were bigger. "I must not have the measles, "he thought, "because measles bumps don't get bigger."
