A brook of honey flowed right through her garden. Hives hung like lanterns from trees. Blue morning glory and yellow honeysuckle vines twined and trailed everywhere. The air smelled divine. And the sun’s rays were golden against a pristine blue sky. The buzz of bees and the banter of birds came alive. Mee-Maw was a Beekeeper. Beekeepers were special. Maggie knew Mee-Maw loved bees. But her granny loved her most of all. She wished she could harvest honey winter, spring, summer, and fall. Maggie would break off a chunk of the sweet buttery honeycomb and carefully place it in her pail. She could hear the bees softly buzzing around her. Sometimes before dropping it in her pail, she would eye the honeycomb with wonder. The sunlight made it sparkle and glow like golden amber. Her fascination with the busy workers grew each time she went to the hives. On the long drive home, Maggie couldn’t wait for her next visit. As she drifted off to sleep, she could hear the soft buzzing sound of her bees. She dreamed… she had wings that flitted and flapped. She loved honey bees and their sweet honey sap.
