One day while riding bikes with others, a brain named
Moody pushed Smarty so he fell and hit his head! Smarty
always wore a helmet when he rode, so he wasn’t hurt;
just a little shaken up. Moody thought it was funny and
laughed; he never wore a “dumb helmet”.
As Smarty pedaled on the sidewalk, he saw Moody
riding too. Moody had no helmet, just a baseball cap.
At a cross-street, Moody darted out onto the wet road.
Smarty stopped at the curb in time to see Moody wipe out
in front of a car! The car screeched to a stop just in time
to avoid a crash. Almost knocked out when he hit his head on
the road, Moody was speaking odd words with a strange
voice...
The next day after school Smarty was able to see Moody,
who was very sorry that he had been so unkind. He asked
Smarty to teach him how to be safe so he wouldn’t hit his
head on the street anymore!

About the Book
Smarty and Moody are young brains who do things that many kids do. In this book they teach children in a fun way to do these activities smartly and safely, protecting their brains. There are ten stories in this book, and more may be added later.
About the Author
Brian Hamilton was educated as an engineer, and at 24 he survived a traumatic brain injury from a car crash. After rehabilitation he met his wife and moved to Portland, Oregon where they raised two girls. Brian gave safety presentations to schoolchildren for Think First, and this is where he learned to love talking with children about safety.
