The Clark Estate

There was a lingering feeling that the sun would never rise again, she would never be a child again, and would never live in this home and swim in this pond so free of burden and heartache. The wind kissed her face softly, a soothing balm to her tear-soaked cheeks. Life had been so distant to her, it seemed to be excluding her from joy and she felt the insurmountable urge to be surrounded by something so completely that she became a part of it. Aroused by this thought she slipped off her silk gown, leaving her in her cotton chemise, similar to her dresses when she was a girl. With little clothing left on her body, she descended into the cold black pool at her feet. Her breath caught in her throat at the bite of the ice-cold water but she was not deterred, it spurred her on and with a rush of exhilaration, she submerged herself. For a brief and fleeting moment, she wished to not resurface, to stay in the cool quiet escape with the silent creatures and slimy rocks around her. The quiet pond bubbled around her as she floated among the fallen leaves and the long murky vines which called to her from the deep, threatening to pull her down into the endless black.
