Laying on the filthy concrete floor in a rat hole isolation cell in Cadiz, Spain, Dennis and I had time to reflect, reflect about the journey that had brought us to this time and place. It's a frightening and lonely place to be with only a hole in which to piss, a dirty thin, thread bare blanket and rats running over us while we tried to sleep. We were two men, one 5 11 the other over 6, stuck in an isolation cell that was about 8 ft x 10 ft or smaller. It was made of concrete, smelled damp and musty and had one barred window very high up, maybe 10 feet high. The barred window was our only source of light. Time crept by like a tortoise; seconds seemed like hours. Sleep was impossible on the cold concrete floor that seeped into our bones. Bread and water were served two times per day and the shadows made by the sun and clouds were the only way to mark time. How many days would we be kept in isolation and what would be next we both wondered. I suppressed my fear and tried to be in the now. While wondering what would happen next, I thought about my life and how Dennis and I ended up here. A dirty thin, thread bare blanket and rats running over us while we tried to sleep. About the Book
Thrown into an isolation cell in the oldest prison in Spain, bc narrates the story of his friendship with Dennis Nash, their start in Columbus, Ohio and the path they took. 34 Days is a story about two men Dennis Nash and bc Collins, their friendship, adventures and resilience. After serving in the Army in Bamberg, Germany bc was discharged from Munich, Germany. He travelled throughout Western Europe and Morocco over a number of years. To support his simple life style, he sold goods bought in Morocco up the coast of Western Europe. Acquired in the Rif Mountains of Morocco bc also sent small amounts of hashish from there in a variety of ways to friends in Ohio. As a result of the popularity of the hash, Ralph, a friend of Dennis and bc's, funded a deal to buy a large quantity of hashish with plans of transporting it back to the states. The two men drive into the Rif Mountains in a van in which they hollowed out the wooden posts inside. They stay in the mountains while the fifty kilos of hashish was made then leave in the van with a plan to travel to Spain.
About the Author
Johneen is new to publishing her writing. She retired as a Director of Secondary Education from a Central Ohio Public School. She has successfully written and obtained grants. She also enjoys writing poetry and making cards. This book was inspired by her artist husband of 40 years.
