A Songbird’s Lament

None of my characters would ever run into me, if they were real, and that makes me sad. Reed is a loner, and, besides, I kind of loathe Reed because of who I based him off of.   The only one I can imagine that I would run into by accident would be Emil. He’d come in with his nose in a book. He’d order a flat white without even looking at me, and he’d pay with coins that he probably dug from between his couch cushions. He wouldn’t give me the time of day; he was only interested in Wren because he has a sort of hero complex. Well, that’s initially only why he’s interested. I wrote that he asks Wren for a kiss under the guise that he’s trying to see if a kiss will break his spell, knowing that it won’t help, and Wren only complies because she’s trying to make Reed jealous.   But, as I am no damsel in distress, Emil would overlook me. I’m sure of it.   And again I have to remind myself: he’s not real.
