he Rain There are moments daily That remind me I was not made for this life. Not living, no But to exist as nothing but a watcher, A passerby, On whom life has had no effect. No, I know life knows me, We are old friends, you see, She brought me here because all I wish for Wasn’t a fantasy. It will happen upon me like I happened upon it. We will meet in the middle Hands outstretched. I was not made to be in the ground, unable to reach the water, not made to have and to hold but to build and destroy all on my own. I was made to be the rain, Because only she would understand my sadness and bewilderment. My fury and abandonment. I was made to fit in the middle All that I seek around me, For they need me to breathe life into their hollow bodies, Make them more than subtle shadows and mundane meadows Where grass is parched and dull. Because you see, I am the rain. I couldn’t be the earth If I tried.

About the Book
Blue Flame is the classification of what it means to have an identity. Where we grow up, who we grow up with, the people we meet as we do, all remain a part of us. As More writes of her time growing up as a South Asian woman, to adulthood, she weaves an intricacy of emotions of trying to define ourselves beyond the bounds of familial relations and delves into the ideas of youth and mortality. This coming-of-age book of poetry is a tribute to the women who grew up as first-generation Americans, and the eternal flame of feminine rage. Poems whose voice is a force to be reckoned with and pushes for a solidarity amongst women from all walks of life.
