In our deeply divided world, unkind attitudes have become the norm in some social and political circles. White supremacists, unfounded conspiracy spreaders, racists, xenophobes, homophobes, and other easily misguided and angry individuals have demonstrated cruel, sometimes violent, and mean-spirited behaviors that place the very essence of American values at risk.
The current challenge in America is to heal the divides that have ruptured before and during the Trump Era. Schisms have appeared within families, among long-time friends, neighbors, and inside political, social, and religious organizations. Anger, rage, and violence have dominated the American conversation in recent years. Unconditional kindness and forgiveness may offer the only viable way forward.
Amazing Grace
Amazing Grace evokes a chill
That transcends the human heart.
It takes us down to deep and still,
To a place that’s far apart.
Spirit glows in this deep space
Where peace and love reside.
Inspired by gentleness and grace,
The light of kindness shines inside.
Such depths as these become the source
For changing how we see,
Following a new-found course
For how and who to be.
Throughout history of humankind
We’ve been blessed with grace-filled guides
Who demonstrate a life aligned
With kindness at their side.
Now is the time for grace to shine
It’s light upon all humankind.

About the Book
The deep divides in America and throughout the world are threatening the stability of humankind. Fear, anger, and violence are raging in too many arenas.
Discovering Kindness is a poetic effort to inspire kindness as a pathway to healing the divides. Jim Boeglin, a retired attorney who has had a front row seat observing the battle between kindness and unkindness, explores why unkind attitudes have become the norm.

About the Author
Jim Boeglin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Indiana University in 1965 and a Juris Doctor degree from the Indiana University School of Law in 1968. Discovering Kindness is his fifth book and his second book of poetry on the subject of kindness. His other books include American Values in the Trump Era; The Bike Writer; Character Building; and Seeds of Kindness … In a Time of Crisis.
