I think my words began to finally penetrate Lars because I saw him begin to take umbrage at my lecture. At first his simple face showed puzzlement, then anger. "And just who do you think you are and how stupid do you think I am?" he asked. "You'd have to be over three hundred years old to have first hand knowledge of what we talked about tonight." "Three hundred and forty five to be exact. And not only do I know the past but I also know the future." "And what do you know about the future?" he sneered. "I know that yours ends tonight," I said as I drew my nail across his throat, opening his carotid artery. The look on his face was priceless as he held his hands over his throat in a futile attempt to stanch the flow of blood. He collapsed without further protest. I really didn't want to partake of this charlatan and fool but a meal is a meal and so I dined and left his carcass in the shadows of the alley. The fog rolled in even deeper. I wiped my mouth on my handkerchief and sauntered the few blocks to Cafe Du Monde for a coffee and beignets. After all dessert isn't a sin in this city.
