There were ribbons and balloons and yummy smells everywhere.
“It’s Weird Word Day!” exclaimed Booker T. Bear.
He was busy helping Grandmop and Grandpop prepare.
Dahlya, his friend, was excited for the CONTEST to begin.
The Wednesday Word Club had invited professionals to CON-TEND.
The whole town had gathered for Weird Word Day,
with dancing, munching, and young critters at play.
The PRO-CEEDS would help to save an endangered species.
Four professional word lovers had arrived.
Grandmop said, “MY! They’re dressed spit-and-shine fine!”
There were pearls and curls, bowties and bling,
fancy feathers and beaded sweaters, and other such fancy things.
When Mayor Malarkey’s watch chimed,
he crowed loudly, “IT’S TIME!

About the Book
Today is Juneberry Square’s annual Weird Word Day, the most exciting day of the year! Booker T. Bear and Dahlya Dragonfly helped to transform the park with bright banners and balloons. The day’s proceeds will help an en-dan-gered species.
Dahlya is most excited about the Weird Word Contest. Pro-fes-sion-al weird word lovers were invited to con-tend. The contest winner will get to choose which endangered species will receive fun and food from the citizens of Juneberry Square and their special guests. Not only that, the winner gets to take the supplies to the species home! What a surprise that will be for the un-sus-pect-ing creature in need! Which endangered creature will the winner choose? Will the winner travel nearby or far across the globe from home?
What no one knows, though—not even Dahlya—is that Booker has a secret plan, and he stuns everyone!

A silly southern mom, Jen Jellyfish, M.M., ‘Magination Maker, has been
writing whimsical rhymes, stories, and songs since her childhood. She
loves her work as an author, writer, and book editor.
Jen and her husband have a Marine veteran son, a creative daughter,
and pets: dogs, cats, aquatic frogs, and fish. They live in the Midwest,
surrounded by fields of corn, pumpkins, soybeans, and . . . dragonflies!
Jen is consumed with the joy of reading, writing, rhyming, and playing with graphic design. She
especially enjoyed creating the colorful template of Dahlya Dragonfly for the illustrators’ print design.
Like Dahlya, Jen LOVES words; her favorite game is Scrabble. She also loves film, theater, creative cooking, and travel adventures. She has a deep appreciation and respect for all-things-creative and for nature.
